Fairtrade

::IN-0::We became a Fairtrade Circuitin 2015 and are committed to using and promoting Fairtrade products in over 50% of our churches and circuit events.

Why is this important?
Fairtrade is important because it ensures that people who produce the products we use every day, gets a fair wage for the work they do. Many producers worldwide still are living on less than $1 a day and those who work on farms, manufacturing and production often get paid the least (as business owners get richer). So Fairtrade status ensures that the workers at the bottom end of the chain are paid fairly and work in safe conditions.

What sort of products can be Fairtrade?
There are lots of fairtrade products out there. Some carry the Fairtrade mark, which you might spot on supermarket shelves, such as bananas, chocolate, sugar, tea, coffee but there are also clothes, toys, toiletries. There is a much wider variety of fairtrade products available these days, but its still not as mainstream as we'd like it to be.

How can I get involved?
You can support Fairtrade by buying fairtrade products (groceries, clothes, toiletries etc) and by raising awareness.

Every year the Fairtrade Foundation has Fairtrade Fortnight which you can help promote in your local area, church or community. Next year it will be Mon 23 Feb to Sun 05 March 2023.

If your church, organisation or local group are interested in getting Fairtrade status visit the the Fairtrade Foundation website for more information about how to go about this.

There are many independent business, organisations and shops which support and sell fairtrade products online or off the highstreet. In York you can visit:
